The Downbeat

Hosted by Jack Frisch the “The Downbeat” combines his passion for Jazz with experience and stories from a quarter century of working with some of the World’s finest Jazz artists and record labels. The show presents classic and modern Jazz, interviews, new CD and vinyl releases and upcoming event and performance dates in the Pioneer Valley.
About Jack Frisch
A renown art director and graphic designer in the International Jazz scene for 25 years Frisch has designed over 390 CD packages, numerous websites, print advertising, press kits, merchandising, logos as well as shooting photography and video. He is a voting member of N.A.R.A.S (The National Recording Academy of Arts and Sciences) better known to many as The Grammys.
In late 1997 he founded upon working as webmaster for session legend guitarist Hiram Bullock and shooting photography for producer Todd Barkan at recording sessions.
Some of Frisch’s design clients have included Marcus Miller, Lalah Hathaway, Larry Carlton, Victor Wooten, Blue Lou Marini, Lew Soloff, Victor Bailey, Bob James, Arturo O’Farrill, and labels such as Concord, HeadsUp, Fantasy-Milestone, High Note, Savant, Venus and magazines such as Jazziz, Swing Journal and Bass Player to name a few.
In 2001 Frisch was presented a Grammy Certificate in Recognition of participation as the Art Director
on the 2001 Grammy Award winning Best Contemporary Jazz Album of the Year CD Marcus Miller recording “M2 (pronounced M squared) In 2014 he was presented a Grammy Certificate in Recognition of participation as the Art Director on the 2014 Latin Grammy Award winning Best Instrumental Album of the Year CD Arturo O’Farrill Final Night At Birdland. In 2005 he was nominated for a Alex Award for Best Jazz CD package of the Year.
In for the 2022 and 2023 he art directed and designed all of the collateral for the 2022 and 2023 Syracuse Jazz Festival.
Jack founded in late 1998, a service providing discreet and secure transport of artists and their musical instruments and related equipment in and around New York. His transport clients have included Marcus Miller, Mike Stern, Lenny White, Dennis Chambers, Will Lee, Victor Bailey, George Mraz and Harvie S to name a few,
From 2008 to 2015 Jack hosted an annual radio show, with a International audience, for his late client and friend Hiram Bullock at WFDU 89.1 FM at Fairleigh Dickinson University.

Jubilation Jazz

Jubilation Jazz, a program featuring what’s happening in the world of creative improvised music today, with looks back at the great heritage of so-called Jazz and African American music.  As Jazz and recording celebrate their first century, Jubilation will feature the latest music by today’s artists who are taking Jazz into the 21st Century, and also present performances by the masters who created the music.  With Yusef Lateef as his faculty sponsor, Ken Irwin earned his degree in “Ethnomusicology of African-American Music” at UMass in 2002, and has been an active broadcaster and announcer since 1975.
